Agreeing with anchor Ted Koppel, Brit Hume talks blurring of journalism lines

Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume says his former ABC News colleague Ted Koppel’s comments that the “establishment press” is out to get President Trump are true, and that the blurring of lines separating opinion and neutral news coverage is a problem for outlets like The Washington Post and The New York Times.

New Show Hacker News story: Launch HN: Cliperado – Automatically take screenshots of your whole service

Launch HN: Cliperado – Automatically take screenshots of your whole service
6 by arjenschat | 2 comments on Hacker News.
Cliperado ( https://cliperado.com ) is an online tool to automatically take screenshots of your service and keep the shots up-to-date in your help guides. The idea for Cliperado came when we were creating visual step by step guides, to reduce our support volume, for an other service. We needed about 200 clips for each language. It took so much time to create just a few. I was pulling my hair out. Especially with the thought of having to check all the clips for changes in a month from now, manually. You’ve probably seen a few online tutorials with outdated and confusing screenshots. You probably have a some outdated screenshot in your own manuals. I get that, it is just too much work to keep these updated manually. So we created Cliperado, to automate this. How Cliperado works. Cliperado takes full page retina screenshots of your online service. It can take screenshots of pages behind a login screen as well, by filling out forms, clicking on buttons or hover over menus, etc , etc. You can crop a screenshot, add arrows or highlights, to create clips for step-by-step guides. Cliperado hosts these clips online. You can schedule Cliperado to refresh the screenshots weekly. Changed screenshots are highlighted in the visual sitemap, so you don’t have to hunt down changes. When you expect a screenshot to change with every refresh, you can mask certain areas, to exclude these from comparison. We hope you want to give Cliperado a try. We are looking forward to your feedback.

Ask HN: How did you adapt to a rapidly-growing startup?

Hello HN, I'm an engineer working for a startup entering a period of high-growth. One year ago, I was the first (non-executive) full-time engineer. Currently I'm one of six, and in a year's time I'll likely be one of 20. As we continue to add engineers and engineering managers, I'm not quite sure how to find my new place within the organization. How have you adapted to your team growing around and above you without feeling like you're being replaced?

Ask HN: Affordable Locations for an Independent Study Period (Sabbatical)?

I have been lucky enough to save up a good chunk of cash from regular work and side projects... I would now like to take some time off (6+ months) to completely focus on my own development/education/reading etc... I am pretty free to go wherever I think would work best, what I would like is to find a relatively cheap place with: - A decent living space (1 bed apartment) - Relatively cheap and decent food and rent (hopefully < $1500/month all in) - Good Internet Access and a comfortable/quiet place to read/study - Some chances opportunities to socialize with like minded individuals (I'm afraid I speak only English) - Somewhere not too hot (< 28C please! :) ) but with good access to nature (I love the outdoors and hiking) Can anyone recommend somewhere? I'm a single mid/late 30s happy go lucky guy, who loves science and philosophy, if that helps! I'm thinking SE Asia, or South/Central America are my best bets? Or maybe India/Nepal? Thanks!

New ask Hacker News story: Ask HN: Makes sense to do Masters in Computer Science after 13 years experience?

Ask HN: Makes sense to do Masters in Computer Science after 13 years experience?
33 by sidcool | 35 comments on Hacker News.
I have been programming for 13 years now, which kinda makes me an old timer. I have mostly done web backends (little frontend) and DevOps, but nothing FAANG level. I am starting to get saturated with building regular apps and doing DevOps (some of them quite cool and challenging). So I picked up Rust to get into low level systems programming. It's chugging along, but I am yet to make something cool with Rust. I also try very hard to have an exponential personal growth. It's not been very successful so far. I do keep learning but not at a speed I consider meaningful. This made me think, should I go ahead and pursue a Masters degree in Computer Science? Specifically in my interest subject of Distributed Computing. Is it too late for me to pursue it? Is it even meaningful given my info above? Has anyone had success with learning something Masters level without external motivation? EDIT: I already have a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (non US)
