Andrew McCarthy: Mueller's collusion-free collusion indictment of Roger Stone -- The fever dream continues

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment of Roger Stone may be the most peculiar document to emerge from the Trump–Russia “collusion” saga. It is an instant classic in the Mueller genre: lots of heavy breathing, then sputtering anti-climax.

I recently decided that I wanted to take my CS skills to the next level, and learning LISP(Scheme/Clojure/etc.) was going to be a part of that process. I am fairly capable with code in general(did a lot in undergrad, and now work with C# professionally), but really just beginning with Scheme(bought SICP), and Clojure and I want to continue by making something cool, simple and open-source. I really just want to gauge interest among people in a similar stage of learning, so we can possibly come together to write something simple, yet meaningful enough to motivate us. I'm open to really any major LISP, although it seems that Scheme and Clojure offer a nice community to work with. If you are interested message me on Keybase at j3elam, or twitter at elamje. Or comment of course:)

Hi y'all, A friend of mine with a non-technical background is looking to learn R and apply it to her daily work. She has a background in statistics and clinical research but is non-technical. I was wondering if anyone on this forum has gone through any courses and their experiences with those. The reason I ask is money is a little tight for her so she is trying to do some research before she spends on it. Cursory google searches for ratings of courses had a lot of companies advertising their own products or courses like Edureka, for instance. Thanks in advance!

I've got a major career decision to make and I'm really sweating over it. I can choose between enough salary to cover my expenses and 50K stock options in a SF startup that is in the process of closing a $100M round with prominent companies and VCs in the valley. The stock will either be worthless or, up to 1.6M if the company manages to 10x it's current value. At current value, the options would be "worth" $135,000 after paying the strike price. Given the laws in my country of residence there would be no taxes on either exercise or selling the shares. Or I can choose $400K in after-tax income over the same 4 years. I think the company has good prospects of succeeding, and they'll certainly have the funding for it. They're in the nice hockeystick part of the growth curve. But nothing is for certain, and there's always ways it can go wrong. How does a person even begin to make a sensible decision about something like this? I made some spreadsheets, entered some made up probabilities and the math tells me choose the equity. Everyone else tells me take the money. If I had $400K in cash, I wouldn't spend it all on shares in this company - it seems to risky to me. That's an amount I would definitely miss if I lost it, and it's fully undiversified. Heck I wouldn't even put $400K into just Apple or just Google, and they're a lot less risky! But the smart money may be to take the risk. What would you do?

Mostly just looking for people submit ideas on the main topic, but if you're interested you can read about my specific situation below. I have unique knowledge/experience about how a variety of industrial equipment and computer systems communicate, and how the software to allow them to communicate should be designed. Right now, it's very difficult to make these devices/systems communicate, but at the company where I work we're creating software which uses the knowledge I have to greatly simplify the process. Companies have happily paid us large amounts of money just for the beta version of our product. I'm currently the only active developer. On the one hand, there is a need to protect critical portions of this code. But in an ideal world, there would be some way to profit from the useful software we're creating while opening source access to the world. I would absolutely be open to ideas about that, or experiences people have had. At the very least, I would like to avoid internally segregating our code base for future developers. However, how would we prevent a VC funded competitor from poaching one of our developers and gaining access to knowledge it would have taken them years or decades to acquire? Are some businesses only viable with closed source, internally segregated, software? Or, is it inevitable that all source will leak anyway, so you should try to create a model which does not rely on proprietary information?

We are talking about abusive privacy issues that several agents in our society are practising, some countries have laws regulating some issues like what a company can ask for a job applicant. Today I received an email inviting to participate in the selection process for a company that praise privacy in it's main product, but surprisingly it doesn't seems to apply the same in it's internal workflow, for example see what they ask in their invitation (the company listed it's offer here on HN http://bit.ly/2D2hRQw ):

We are creating a "Maker Space" or "Hackspace" and want to get a good 3D printer that we can use to make IoT prototypes. If you have experience with 3D printers and can give advice on which one to buy, please share! Thanks! More detailed criteria in: http://bit.ly/2MMXNWw
